Some of the plants have ancient biblical histories.   Plants of Bible Times That Repel Bugs Naturally     Have you ever wondered what makes humans so attractive to those irritating and sometimes … Continue reading Plants of Bible Times That Repel Bugs Naturally

Metallic “June” Green Beetles Flying Around

I saw these huge beetles buzzing around the corn patch. Seems like they arrive every July (why are they called “June” beetles?). Anyway, friend and colleague Joe Boggs of Ohio State Extension shares this timely information. Green June Beetles (Cotinis nitida, family Scarabaeidae) are practicing their annual terrorizing of backyard gardeners, golfers, sunbathers, small pets, etc., as they buzz golf courses and lawns. Despite the “June” … Continue reading Metallic “June” Green Beetles Flying Around

Some Unusual Herbs and Clothes on the Line

I usually wait until Friday to send things out so I don’t bombard you with mail, but this morning was a perfect morning to take some photos of some of my more unusual herbs in my herb garden. My herb garden is divided into sections:  household herbs, medicinal herbs, culinary herbs and Bible herbs. Can you guess which section these came from? Clothes on the … Continue reading Some Unusual Herbs and Clothes on the Line

Tomato Onion “Relish” & A Surprise Visitor

Rita’s Cloned Orange Dreamsicle/Creamsicle Cake

Yes, it’s that good and perfect for your July 4 celebration of our nation’s hard fought and precious independence. I made the cake today on Fox 19 Cincinnati (check out the video) and it was, as usual, a … Continue reading Rita’s Cloned Orange Dreamsicle/Creamsicle Cake

Mint! Vitamin/Spa/Detox Water with. Mint and Potatoes with Mint Pesto

This week when I chatted with Matt Swaim on the Sonrise Morning Show, Sacred Heart Radio, we talked about mint. It was used as a tithing herb during Bible days!  Here’s a familiar passage: Luke 11:42 “But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to … Continue reading Mint! Oh Honey…..get yours from Poe’s Honey

The photos above are from our beekeeper (see Tony Poe with that beautiful honey from the hives) and also me – fresh, sweet, THE BEST, honey. The last photo is one from a Fox 19 TV show I did using honey to make healthful drinks, and of course, I used “our” honey. We plant all kinds of flowers, veggies and herbs and along with the … Continue reading Oh Honey…..get yours from Poe’s Honey
