Mexican Sunflower

Friend and garden expert, Ron Wilson, showcased one of my newest favorite flowers, Mexican sunflower. I saved seeds from last year and now have a nice row almost ready to bloom. Here’s what Ron has to say about these beautiful and easy to care for flowers:

“One of my favorite, newly discovered for me, good for the pollinators, colorful annual is starting to put on its colorful show which will last until the end of the season.And you can’t miss its 3-inch-wide bright orange flowers!Its Tithonia, or commonly known as Mexican Sunflower (also Mexican Marigold, and Goldflower of the Incas).A native of Mexico and Central America, this annual loves it sunny hot and dry!And its one heck of a great source of nectar and habitat for beneficial insects including butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds.Grows 2-6 feet high depending on which selection you grow, bushy, and deer usually leave it alone.Deadhead for more flowers but otherwise low maintenance.Beds, borders, containers, cottage gardens, pollinator gardens, cutting gardens.This one puts on one heck of a show all season long!”
