Checking the temperature outside it’s 1 below zero here on our little patch of heaven. Our son, Shane, came out to help split wood for the stove, and brought his daughters, Eva, Emerson and Ellery with him. I was telling the girls about my neighbor, Erin Phillips of Phillips Farm – Erin brought Montessori middle school students out to tap maple and box elder trees for syrup. Well, that’s all the girls needed to know. Eva, our 10 year old, in particular said “Sitti, can we tap your trees?” I’ll see if Erin has extra tubing, etc. to do that. Meanwhile, check out Erin’s site for a photo tutorial plus some interesting facts about which trees produce the sweetest syrup.
Thanks to Erin for the photo.
