God said, “I have given you every plant with seeds on the face of the earth and every tree that has fruit with seeds. This will be your food.” Genesis 1:29
People of Bible days knew that certain foods allow us to slow down the aging process and help prevent some of the diseases and ailments which cause us to lose our vitality.
Some of the ingredients in these yummy and easy granola bars (gluten free too!) are mentioned in the Bible and were common foods eaten during Bible days.
NUTS: These trees flourished in the Galilee region.
All nuts are a good energy and protein source. Almonds are especially good since they have lots of calcium.
DATES: These were eaten thousands of years before Christ was born. Dates are a good source of fiber and have all of the B complex vitamins except B-12. Dates also contain iron and potassium.
HONEY: There was no sugar in that part of the world during Christ’s time. Honey was the main sweetener. Buy raw honey which contains all the good enzymes and minerals.
SO YUMMY, SO EASY GLUTEN FREE GRANOLA BARS
These keep covered at room temperature about a week, or frozen for a couple of months. I used maple syrup. If you use honey, the bars will be sweeter tasting.
1 cup dates, processed in food processor until they form a sticky ball
1/4 cup pure maple syrup or honey
1/4 cup creamy peanut butter
1 cup nuts – I used almonds
1-1/2 cups oats
Toast oats and nuts separately in 350 degree oven until oats are just golden and nuts are fragrant. Chop nuts coarsely. Put oats, nuts and dates in a bowl. Warm maple syrup and peanut butter, mix well and stir this over oats, breaking up dates to thoroughly mix. This will take a few minutes. Pour into 8×8 pan lined with sprayed foil. Press down firmly. Cover with wrap and place in refrigerator to harden. Remove and cut into bars.
