The bean herb and green beans with savory

DSCN1755

Savory, called the bean herb in Germany, helps dispel gas and comes in 2 varieties: winter, a perennial and summer, an annual. It has a tangy taste and a marjoram like flavor. (Marjoram is a mild tasting cousin to oregano). Winter is stronger tasting than summer.

Lots of minerals and vitamins in this herb along with compounds that inhibit bacteria like E.coli.

I like to make a quick saute of green beans, garlic and savory – add a bit of olive oil and butter, garlic & savory and when that gets foamy, add blanched beans – cook until crisp tender and enjoy!
