How to Make First Watch Restaurant Dressing: Vegetable and Fruit Salad

I had a request from Andrea who loves First Watch’s dressing. I cloned it a long while back and thought it would be good to revisit the recipe for both the veggie & fruit salad. Here they are:


Dressing for vegetable salad
Go to taste on ingredients here. You can always add more.
Toss everything into blender and blend until smooth:
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
1/3 cup cider vinegar)
1-1/2 teaspoons dry mustard
1 tablespoon poppy seed or more to taste
Salt to taste
3/4 to 1 cup sugar
1/4 cup minced onion or to taste
1-1/4 to 1-1/2 cups Canola oil

After you whisk in Canola oil, whisk in 1/2 cup sour cream. This makes a creamy dressing for fruit. Can you use plain yogurt? Yes, but the dressing won’t be quite as creamy.

Mix together 2 cups each diced celery and zucchini. Stir in 2-3 cups diced tomatoes. (I like to add a handful of shredded carrots). Mix with small amount of dressing and serve on bed of greens. Or marinate the vegetables ahead of time, except for the tomatoes. Stir those in last.

Lay favorite bite-size pieces of fruit on a bed of greens. Drizzle dressing over.
