Homemade Produce Wash

DSCN1057

Both cider and clear vinegar have been in the news a lot as wonder vinegars. They’re not only used in foods, but for cleaning produce.

I have a great recipe for an old fashioned produce wash for salad greens:

3 tablespoons cider vinegar to about 6 cups of water. Let your produce soak a few minutes, rinse in clear water, drain, dry and store.

Now for hard skinned fruits like citrus, melons, apples and such use a 1:1 proportion of clear vinegar to water. I usually put this in a spray bottle just like the commercial produce washes. Both of these methods remove toxins and bacteria and the price is right!
