Grow your own ginger

Can you grow ginger?

Yes, as a tender perennial here in our climate. I grow it in the shade in the summer and in the house in winter. Just put the ginger root/rhizome in a pot with good soil, letting the top of the root with its knobby parts peek out of the soil. Water well. Those knobs will eventually swell and produce lance-like leaves. In time, those same rhizomes will produce “babies” and after they mature you can harvest them.
