Does Frisch’s chili contain bell peppers? Surprise…..

Rita's chili - is it a Frisch's clone?

Rita’s chili – is it a Frisch’s clone?

Hah! Gotcha, didn’t I? This is in response to the bunch of blog posts of my site buddies telling me no way Frisch’s chili contains bell/green peppers in spite of the cloned recipe I put on this site from a reader that does contain green bells. Anyway, I went to the source: Rick Conrad, Mktg. Director for Frisch’s right here in Cincy. Rick confirmed that…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….  the chili does indeed have NO bell peppers. “Ground beef, kidney beans, tomato paste, onions, water and our special spices”, he told me. BTW last year they sold 800,000 bowls of the chili and 400,000 cups of it. So, mystery solved.

And the photo here is of my Mom, Mary’s chili. What I grew up with. And yes, it does contain what we used to call “mangoes” which are green bell peppers. And garlic. It’s delish and probably a bit spicier than Frisch’s.

Here’s my challenge to you: can you come up with a clone now that you know what goes into Frisch’s chili?
