Countdown to Thanksgiving: Do Ahead Cheese Dip Appetizer

OLD ENGLISH CHEDDAR & BLUE CHEESE DIP/SPREAD

Image - Version 2All this month on the Sonrise Morning show I’ll be chatting with Annie Mitchell and Matt Swaim about hospitality.

Good subject, huh? Especially at Thanksgiving.

Back in Bible days,  sharing of food together was a token of friendship, a form of covenantal commitment. One of the most despicable acts in the ancient world was to eat with someone and then betray them (Obadiah 7; Psa 41:9; and of course Judas, John 13:18). This entire “code” of hospitality in the Middle East was so strong that it evoked a warning: “Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares” (Heb 13:2).  I love that passage.

Serve either of these with crackers, pretzels, garlic toast rounds, whatever!

These keep at least a week, covered, in the refrigerator.

2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese

1 tablespoon dried onion flakes or finely minced onion, regular or green onions

Place first three ingredients in a pan and heat on low stirring until they are well combined.
