Barbecued Sauerkraut like an inside out stuffed cabbage roll – so good!

BARBECUED SAUERKRAUT
Trust me on this one, the name and ingredients sound weird, but there will be no leftovers and plan on sharing the recipe. The sauerkraut turns sweeter while cooking. To me, it tastes like a German stuffed cabbage without the cabbage! Great to tote to that Memorial Day picnic.

1 pound lean ground beef – I like sirloin

1 large onion, chopped

16 oz. plain tomato sauce

1 cup packed brown sugar, dark or light

1 large can sauerkraut, drained a bit

Preheat oven to 350. Brown meat and onions. Put in casserole and cover with sauce. Sprinkle 1/4 cup brown sugar on top. Layer 1/2 sauerkraut on top, then 1/4 cup brown sugar, the rest of the sauerkraut and brown sugar. Bake an hour or so. Good hot, warm or room temperature.
