Countdown to Thanksgiving: Apple Ginger Sparklers

When Martha Stewart sent her staff to Macy’s here in Cincinnati, I worked with them on a special holiday class. I loved the apple ginger sparkler recipe. No alcohol in this one. And you know what? If you’re feeling kind down with a cold or flu, this drink will make you feel better. Promise!

Here’s my adaptation. Another nice drink for the holiday.

1 1/2 cups Ginger Syrup (recipe follows)

6 cups sparkling apple cider or regular cider

Garnish: optional but nice: 6 cinnamon sticks and 6 pieces crystallized ginger or a sprig of mint

Place 2-3 tablespoons syrup in each of six glasses. Fill glasses with ice cubes; pour in cider. Garnish with cinnamon sticks and crystallized ginger. Serve immediately.

Ginger syrup

1 cup sugar

1 three-inch piece fresh ginger (4 oz) peeled and sliced

1 cup water

In small saucepan over medium-high heat, bring the sugar, ginger, and 1 cup

water to a boil. Cool completely; strain. Store in an airtight container, refrigerated, up to 1 week. Serves 6
